Meet the Teachers

Our teachers are all highly qualified swimming instructors, and most of us are parents. We have a passion for teaching children to enjoy the water, be safe in the water and learn to swim in a fun and hands on way. View each individual profile to learn more about each of the team.

Julia de Lucchi – Owner & Instructor

Julia is the Founder of Smart Swim School. She is an STA Baby and Pre-school Tutor in Infant Aquatics. She trains teachers both in the U.K. and abroad. Her passion for teaching children to love the water shines through in every one of the classes she teaches.

Julia has a vision to see children love the water and encourages many children to become little fish! She has a talent in helping both children and adults to overcome their fear of the water and learn to swim. She believes in teaching through having fun, understanding ones buoyancy, having good breath control, as well as learning life saving water safety skills. The most important element to learning to swim, is trust with the person teaching you!!

Julia began developing the vision for Smart Swim School in 2004. After moving to Reepham in 2010, Smart Swim has grown and added 14 members to the team and teaches around 400 children a week!

Julia has four children of her own. Her youngest son, Hudson, was a 10 pound home water birth. Her two eldest, Daniel and Taylor, are both qualified teachers who worked for Smart Swim. Her littlest Amy-Li is her little fish and loves being underwater.

Julia loved doing the Birthlight Diploma course and is the only person in Birthlight to pass the diploma with a distinction in both her course work and her practical assessment, and this lead to her becoming one of the Birthlight Infant Aquatic Tutors. Training other teachers is a passion of hers and her dream is to see baby swimming spread throughout China, where her daughter is from.

Heather

Heather is our longest standing staff member and is such an asset to the Smart Swim team. Even before she trained to be a Baby Swim instructor, she was one of our swimming parents, giving her a deeper understanding from the parents point of view. Smart Swim wouldn’t run as smoothly without her expert administration skills. She is organised, tidy and always reliable. Both the children and their parents love the warmth and enthusiasm she brings to her classes. Heather is always happy to lend a helping hand to our swimming parents, by keeping an eye on the little ones on poolside, making it easier for them to come swimming with siblings.

Heather says “I was a stay-at-home mum for 8 1/2 years before starting an exciting journey at Smart Swim. I started my journey as a parent, the atmosphere and fun teaching was brilliant. It was then that the opportunity arose for me to train and be a part of that great team. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and seeing the children progress. Their happy, smiley faces make my day!

In my spare time I enjoy running and have a keen interest in nutrition.”
